BPR Field Reporter Trish O visited Emmett McCarthy's boutique last week and sends us this report - thanks Trish!
So last Thursday night I ventured into NYC for Emmett's holiday bash/sale. It's always a treat to visit with Emmett and his staff and to check out the fabulous merchandise.
He had some great new shoes on display as well as some new dresses (and some that were marked down so much that it was impossible to pass them by!) I picked up a cute dress and when I wear it on New Year's Eve, I'll send some pics :)
Emmett's been very busy (and obviously stressed over the economy and its effect on retail) but the store looks great and the event was a lot of fun! (He had one the week before, but the weather did not cooperate - which isn't uncommon for an EMc2 event. I still remember the first big event a few summers back and the monsoon I drove through to get there!)
Also, btw - today is Emmett's birthday! Happy Birthday friend :)

NYC-based field reporter, Trish O, was at Emmett McCarthy's Shoe Sale on Wednesday night. Here is her report. Thanks again Trish!
Well - a tough and demanding school year has come to an end and after all the work I put into it, I decided that my "sole needed some saving!" so I took a trip into New York City to Emmett McCarthy's "Who Will Save Your Sole?" shoe sale at his EMc2 boutique on Wednesday night! Every time I visit the store, the displays are so different and quite striking. This time the focus was of course - on the shoes!

Dispatch from EMc2 - Tim Gunn Bobblehead Signing. 12/9/2007.
Professor Anthony Cady - FIT.
Just back from Emmett McCarthy's shop. A cold day in Gotham for signing bobbleheads. For obvious reasons I really couldn't ask questions we all want asked so I came armed with 1 quick question:
Comment on the season's fashion equivalent of the fruitcake: the Christmas Sweater.
First the obvious - Tim is a good man - warm and patient with fans and quick with the pen on a very cold day. Diplomatic too.
He deftly deflected difficult questions about the current season and his relationship with the show.
I asked about his relationship with Liz Claiborne. For fans of the brand be on the lookout - Tim is back from a series of trunk shows highlighting the relaunch and update of the label - changes have been well received - customers new and old will be pleased.
I asked for Christmas gift tips.
Accessories for your electronics - hit Best Buy for Liz Claiborne covers and cases - a clever and inexpensive gift idea.
And Christmas Sweaters? "Oh Good Lord! Pleeaassee!"
Jack, Kevin and Christian dropped by briefly.
Jack's arms are enormous. Kevin is sinister and intense.
Christian's mullet is on sideways. Jack's mother doesn't wear Christmas sweaters. Although Jack's brother, whom I chatted with, reported that he, Jack and male friends have donned noxious Christmas sweaters and gone drinking. Kevin is unaware of Christmas sweaters. Christian produced a blank stare when asked about them.
A word about Emmett McCarthy. Another good man. Tall. Really tall. Polite and very warm. Unlike some of the other alumni who are wallowing in celebrity - Emmett is designing and running his shop and business. He's recently added bags and footwear both of which are distinctive and well made.
Celebrity is easy. The nuts and bolts of building and running a fashion business are very hard - Emmett is doing a good job.
Anthony

And you can take him home with you!
Visit EMc2 on Sunday, December 9th between 1 and 5 pm and have Tim Gunn sign your new, talking bobblehead. Doors will open at 11 am so you'll have plenty of time to do your holiday shopping and perhaps pick up a new frock, shoes, jacket or coat to be properly stylish for your introduction to Tim.
Already have the 'vintage' Tim? He needs a friend! One that can tell you to "make it work" and can proclaim you to be "fab-u-lous" just when you need it. As a proud owner of both versions of the bobblehead, I can tell you that this one is even more dapper and certainly more loquacious. Even Nina Garcia would not be disappointed in the construction details of this mini-mentor who reminds you to strive for quality, taste and style.
The Tim Gunn Talking Bobblehead is perfect for those holiday gift exchanges or for that hard-to-shop-for friend on your list. Pre-order it to pick up at the store and plan to meet Tim! They are sure to go quickly so what are you waiting for? Carry on!
